We head to Stranis Hill to visit the historic point where the lyrics to the Greek national anthem were composed by Dionysios Solomos and admire the panoramic view.

We then make the short trip to Bochali which is a favourite spot for the locals in the evening with a fantastic view over Zakynthos Town and the south of the island, even over to the mainland on clear days.

ST DIONYSIOS CHURCH (St Dennis’ Church) is the most important church on the island of Zakynthos as it is dedicated to Saint Dionysios, the patron saint of the island, whose mummified remains are held in the church in a silver casket. Founded in 1708 it has a Venetian appearance and the bell tower is a direct copy, although slightly smaller, of St Marco's in Venice.

The guided walking tour of Zakynthos Town starts in Solomos Square. Here a statue commemorates Dionysos Solomos, the poet who composed the “Hymn of Freedom” that later became the Greek National Anthem. The square is surrounded by St Nicholas Church, the Byzantine Museum, and the Cultural Centre of Zakinthos. We then continue to historic St Mark’s Square where the “popolari” burned the Libra d’Oro (Book of Nobility) in 1797.
